Larry Clifton and Company: Little Dixie

[Chace McCaskill]

My first time at Little Dixie was in 2007. Made it every year through 2017, life got busy and nine years went by. We walked in this weekend not knowing what we would find, and it was the same as always.

That does not happen by accident. Larry Clifton has carried this for years. Dustin Lott, Jason Crenshaw and the rest of the crew helping him carry it on, and the local guides open up their land and give up their sleep so the rest of us can have a good hunt. The church cooks and opens the doors and gives hunters a place to sit down across from each other and eat. That part matters more than people realize.

Losing both nights wasn’t the plan, but both casts had great people and sportsmanship.

It is worth something that a small community of hunters can still put on a thing like this, year after year, with success. Hats off to all of you.

That group of guys have always known how to put on a good coon hunt

Chace:Thanks for your kind words. This year was the 29th annual “ Little Dixie Jamboree.I have been fortunate to be at every event. There was discussion in 2001 to not have the hunt because of the 09/11 tragedy just a few days before but decided to go ahead even though we felt attendance might be significantly lower.Could have not been more wrong. We had 262 entries in two nights.I feel people where wanting to put some normality back in their lives. Most of the ones that I worked with on putting the initial hunt together are no longer with us(Nick DeGiacomo,Gene Bullard,Eddie Walter’s and many are not physically able to hunt any longer(JT Hobbs,David Hull,H Wilson etc.) but the tradition carry’s on.
This hunt would not carry on if it were not for all the hunters, judges, guides and all involved.
For this I am so grateful!! Larry Clifton Pkc #507
