Had this happen in cast last week. We handled the situation fine, just considered tough break, something don’t happen often. But she did same thing lastnight with a coon.
Dog is treed in alone, walk to it no question it is treed along way. Get to her she is still showing treed by standing , and making small circles (8ft?) head into the wind whole time.
How do you determine what is minused? In the hunt there was a pretty good steady wind. She was on one side small creek with a large sycamore directly across along with cedars and oaks a little farther.
Lastnight she trees edge bean field not hardly speck of wind. Walk into her same deal head up treeing. Directly above her 20ft was a coon. The tree leaned way out to field edge. The base of the tree was probably 20ft.
Is she minused both ways, just tree. Or do you allow shine and if no coon is found up wind minused both ways?
Winding?

Re: Winding?
Ive seen this myself Adam. Happened to me one night in a hunt. I took my tree minus the first time for unsatisfactory treed. The next time she was close to a tree so I was able to handle her. Coon was sitting back about 30 yards from her so wack me both ways again... Bad Break!

Re: Winding?
A person should be able to handle his dog if it is showing treed. Just my opinion. I have to tree or get scratched for stationary.
Hound shouldn’t be faulted for treeing coons this way. in hot dry weather it’s going to happen.
Common sense should be a coon is close and up wind. But how do you determine distance. No coon upwind minused both ways imo.

Re: Winding?
I think they will probably say that the coon went up the tree somewhere. The dog should have the ability to determine where it actually went up rather than guessing where it is. It's honestly pretty impressive for a dog to have to ability to do, but its not practical to the rules.

Re: Winding?
I think the common sense rule works for this.. coon above her, + her up.
I have a little redbone that trees layups all the time. Come hasn't been down for awhile.
